One of the most famous October attractions here in Berlin is the rather well known Festival of Lights. Here is some basic information about the Festival that you might not know:
- 12 nights in October
- Organized and led by Birgit Zander – a native Berliner – who started the whole thing in 2005 with her marketing firm.
- Visited by 1.5 million guests every year
- Involves 1.3 billion media contacts — which reflects the huge international pubilicity of the event.
- 100% private initiative
There are around 40 illuminations all around Berlin, but the biggest ones by far are the TV Tower, Brandenburg Gate, and the Berliner Dom. The Brandenburg Gate’s illumination is particularly fascinating — it features 3D videomapping technology.
Here are photos from the event — which spotlights (pun intended) Berlin’s role as a world city.
